Bobbin for a sewing machine. How to thread the bobbin? How to properly thread a sewing machine: step by step instructions Soviet sewing machine how to thread

Before you start using the sewing machine, you need to carefully study the instructions and learn how to fill the machine. Threading each machine involves the use of two threads at the same time - upper and lower. The lower thread is fed from a spool located in the bobbin, and the upper thread is installed in the place allotted to it and, by simple manipulations, is threaded into the eye of the machine needle. Regardless of the model of the machine - manual, foot, electric - extra care must be taken both in the process of refueling the machine and at the time of sewing.

1. To make it easier for a novice seamstress to understand the refueling scheme, we suggest that you first familiarize yourself with the scheme of the sewing machine.

2. We wind the thread on the bobbin, at the same time we take the spool for the upper thread. Then we put the spool on the upper pin (a special place for the spool of thread is always located in one place).

3. We thread the upper thread: as a rule, each machine has instructions, most often on the body itself. The upper thread is the one that is fed from the spool and pulled into the eye of the needle. Immediately before threading, be sure to raise the foot and place the needle in its highest position.

4. We carefully check the thread tension: in modern machines there is a regulator, there are also several positions that affect the final tension force.

5. We carefully check whether all the steps for threading the upper thread are completed correctly. We proceed to refueling the bottom, for which we turn off the drive or the moss wheel. We insert the bobbin into place (here, depending on the model of the machine, there may be differences). When finished, you need to turn on the wheel and scroll it several times until there is enough thread on the bobbin.

6. Insert the bobbin case into the bobbin, while the pin of the bobbin must match the slot of the bobbin. When installed correctly, a characteristic click should be heard.

7. We bring the thread through the hole in the sliding plate and close it. Now it remains to connect both threads and bring them back, under the foot.

8. The general refueling scheme looks like this:

Now you know how to run sewing machine and after carefully studying all the steps, you can easily cope with this task. To check, turn the flywheel a little, after lowering and raising the needle from the hole in the plate, a loop from the bottom thread should appear on the upper thread. As you can see, threading a sewing machine is not an easy task, it requires concentration and adherence to a strict sequence. But after doing this procedure several times, you can perform the usual actions in a very short time.

To start working on a sewing machine of any type, you first need to make basic settings. The most basic is threading. It is very difficult for beginner seamstresses to do this manipulation for the first time due to ignorance of the mechanism of the device. To carry out all the steps correctly, you need to know the principle of how to thread a sewing machine correctly and without disrupting the operation of the device.

How to properly thread a standard sewing machine

It is easy to figure out how to insert a thread into a sewing machine if the work is carried out on a modern device of an electrical or electromechanical type.

Example of threading on a Minerva model

Minerva is currently the most popular firm. There are many models that differ in the complexity of the arrangement, functional aspects, and the number of operations. But there is one thing in common between them - the principle of threading.

Note! Another popular company is Veritas. The principle of threading is completely identical to Minerva.

The advantage of modern sewing devices is the presence of an electric principle of operation, so the procedure for winding the bobbin and further actions. The standard filling pattern can be used in other similar models of modern production.

Installing the bobbin

The most important step is to load the bobbin. The principle of winding the thread and fixing the element (using the example of Minerva) is as follows:

The structure of the mechanism for fixing the bobbin
  1. You need to remove the removable work table. To do this, the plastic plate must be moved to the left and completely removed. On a certain model, the principle of removing the table may be modified.
  2. The case has a plastic door. Open compartment. Behind it you can see the bobbin mechanism that needs to be removed. Pre-raise the needle using the handwheel. To do this, just pull the “setting finger” towards you.
  3. Pull the bobbin out of the mechanism. Install the tool on the top pin. Pull the "yarn" from the spool to the bobbin, using special windings to hold it. Thread the thread through the hole in the bobbin to secure it completely.
  4. Press the pedal, having previously set the "Idle" mode. The bobbin will automatically be threaded. You can use a flywheel, but this winding principle will be long, as it is done manually.

Fixing and filling the bobbin

It is necessary to correctly install the bobbin in the mechanism and the machine itself. Insert the device into the mechanism so that the thread is located clockwise relative to the slot. Then the bobbin element is placed in place, while you need to hold the "working finger". On most machines, the principle of installing the bobbin is made in accordance with such a mechanism.

Upper threading

The sewing mechanism of any device model is designed in such a way that 2 threads are involved in the work - upper and lower. The easiest way is to place the top one. Arrangement algorithm:

  1. Pull the thread, using the prompts, pull the thread through the fasteners on the body of the fixture.
  2. Be sure to pass the thread through the fasteners, which are responsible for the thread tension and the hole responsible for the compensation spring.
  3. Insert the yarn near the foot into the thread guide.
  4. Next, pass through the guide hook and only then thread it into the eye of the needle.

Top threading principle

On the this stage arrangement of the upper mechanism is completed. The yarn can be inserted into the needle manually, aiming at the eye, or you can use the automatic needle threader - a special mechanism for introducing material for sewing into the eye of the needle. It is located on the left side of the foot and is adjustable with a lever.

Threading the lower thread

After installing the bobbin mechanism, the introduction of yarn into work is carried out. The main thing is to correctly insert the bobbin and place the sewing mechanism in it. Next, the thread is pulled up under the foot.

Refueling bottom thread

Switch off the device and use the side wheel to lower the needle. In this case, it is worth holding the tip of the thread threaded into the eye of the needle. Making one scroll, the top yarn catches the bottom. By pulling up on the top tip, you can pull out the material that comes out of the bobbin.

Checking if threading is correct

The correct threading option is checked in several stages. First, the location of the threads. The lower one should lie under the shoulder blade, and the upper one should be located between the teeth of the shoulder blade.

Another refueling is checked by the quality of the line. You need to take a small piece of fabric. Sew textiles with several types of stitches. If the thread breaks or is difficult to pass, then you need to adjust the mount, which is responsible for the tension of the material.

Checking the quality of threaded thread

It is quite simple to make a check, the procedure will not take much time and will give complete information about the device settings.

Detailed diagram: how to fill an old-style sewing machine

Older models of sewing machines have a slightly more complicated system, so threading here will be more difficult. But if you know the detailed algorithm, then there will be no problems with setting up the device. Procedures are carried out in 2 stages: top filling, bottom.

Threading an old style sewing machine

Additional Information! Each old model has its own thread guide route, so you need to carefully carry out the procedure without bypassing a single hook.

Scheme for setting up the mechanism:

  1. The needle must be in the up position. Fix the coil on the rod. Draw the thread in accordance with the route of the thread guide. Place the material under the tension regulator and push it into the spring. Use the thread guide (thread guide near the needle). Insert the material into the eye of the needle.
  2. Step-by-step algorithm for the implementation of the second stage. Thread the bobbin, insert into the hook. Fasten the shuttle itself to the socket, which is located under the fixture platform. Use the knob to adjust the thread tension. Pull yarn up.

Important! In the process of adjusting the tension, you need to turn the wheel in the direction “away from you”. Otherwise, the yarn will break or become tangled.

Refueling cars with old arrangement mechanism

To fix the result, you need to connect the upper and lower parts of the thread, wrap the ends behind the foot.

Diagram: how to thread a Singer sewing machine

Sewing machines of the Singer brand are distinguished by the complexity of the device and can be amateur sewing equipment and professional machines. Mostly at home, old equipment of this brand is used, since new samples are quite expensive.

Fixing the bobbin mechanism in the Singer of a new sample

note! All Singer models are divided into 2 categories: with one or two thread guides. The threading algorithm depends on the type of the “route” device.

Instructions for mounting sewing yarn:

  1. Disconnect the machine from the mains (take your foot off the pedal in mechanical models).
  2. Raise the needle to its highest position using the side wheel. Lower the presser foot onto the sewing platform.
  3. Fix the coil on a special pin.
  4. Pass the yarn through thread guide #1. Pass the fabric through the second thread guide, if there is one.
  5. Be sure to fix the material in the thread tension regulator.
  6. Pull through recess in tensioner.
  7. Fix in the hook the material that is located above the needle itself.
  8. Insert thread into needle.
Old Singer Threading Model

According to the usual scheme, the lower thread is inserted - you need to wind the yarn on the bobbin for sewing. An automatic winding mechanism can be used as an assistant.

Possible errors in threading

It is important not only to correctly thread and start the process, but also to avoid mistakes that can aggravate the sewing procedure. Although the algorithm for mounting the upper and lower threads is simple, some flaws can degrade the performance of the device.

What to look for when assembling yarn:

  • After mounting the thread, be sure to use a test piece of fabric to check the operation of the mechanism. High or low material tension can distort the shape and size of the seam.
  • The material may be poorly fixed by the hook, which is responsible for the tension of the thread.
  • The yarn may turn over or twist. To solve this problem, it is important to correctly adjust the tension of the material that is fixed on the bobbin.
  • Incorrectly selected threads at the bottom and top of the mechanism. If you put on threads of different texture and density, the seam will be uneven and slightly deformed.

Problems during thread installation

You can add a few more points that will reveal the main problems, but they are quite elementary and easily detected during the assembling of yarn.

Depending on the model and “age” of the sewing machine, a more detailed principle of threading is determined. In general, the procedure is carried out in several stages: mounting the material in the upper part of the fixture, the bottom and laying the threads. It will not be difficult to thread a thread in accordance with the route - all stages in modern models are almost completely automated. Old samples are more complicated in terms of automation, but are easy to "train".

How to thread a sewing machine in 6 steps

Using the instructions, you can correctly and quickly thread the sewing machine When sewing, a lot of problems can arise, especially for beginners. Incorrect threading of the upper and lower threads will cause the stitching to slip, resulting in damage to the sewn fabric. This problem may occur if the bobbin thread is not threaded correctly. Wrong and uneven stitching can ruin appearance fabrics, children's clothing, any outfit. That is why it is necessary to initially correctly thread the thread into the sewing machine. Threading depends on the type of machine. In order to manually thread the machine, you need to study the instructions for the old type machines. Modern cars allow you to place additional instructions on the steps on your body, you don’t have to flip through the book.

Diagram: how to thread a Singer sewing machine

The Singer sewing machine is a good sewing tool for beginners. It has features that make it easy to operate and apply. Skills to hone on such a machine is a pleasure. The main advantage of the Singer brand is the ability of the thread guide to work automatically. In order to place the thread element in the Singer electric machine, you need to follow the diagram.

In order to thread the thread into the Singer sewing machine, you can use a special scheme

Singer threading scheme:

  1. Place the spool of thread in a special place at the top of the machine. It is fixed with a special holder that will not allow it to fall off while the thread is being unwound.
  2. You can use the thread guide to guide the thread by pulling it and wrapping the bobbin.
  3. Pass through the holes located on the coil.
  4. Coil location - must be installed in a special place, which is located on the right side of the machine body.
  5. Press down on the pedal that sets the machine in motion. It is necessary to keep the end of the thread, which is free. This will help to gently wind the thread onto a spool that is suitable for a Singer typewriter.
  6. Remove the reel ready for use.

The scheme allows you to wind the thread on the spool that belongs to the machine, and not wind it from its native, factory spool. How to thread a needle on a typewriter? It is necessary to raise the needle itself, this can be done as much as possible by turning the wheel, which is adapted to control the hands on itself. You should insert the coil into a special holder, which is located on top of the body. Raising the holder, place a spool of thread on it, fix it with a cap.

Next, pull the thread into the compartment, above the needle, through the lever adapted to work with the thread guide. After the lever, it is necessary to direct the thread back and down. Use a lower tension device. The bottom pull is a small clip that sits above the needle. The next and final step is threading the needle. Fill it in front and stretch it back. Before threading and installing the spool, you need to remember to do all the work with the machine turned off, otherwise injury or incorrect installation may occur.

Steps for threading the upper thread into a sewing machine

The top thread is the one that passes through the spool to the needle and is inserted into the needle hole, called the eye. To thread it into a certain type of machine, for example, into a manual (not electric) machine, you need to raise the foot that presses the fabric, turn the handwheel, put the needle and thread take-up in the highest position from the top

You can start working with the sewing machine after threading the upper thread

How to thread the upper thread:

  • Place the coil on the rod intended for its installation;
  • Thread the thread from the spool through the upper thread guide eye, it will regulate it when pulled;
  • Pass the thread from below into the eye of the lower thread guide and put on the needle.

If you skip even one thread guide, you will have to redo the work again. You need a certain angle of thread for normal operation. The thread is inserted into the sewing needle with the groove oriented. It is located on the side of its entrance to the needle.

Detailed diagram: how to fill an old-style sewing machine

Non-rotary type machines have an almost identical thread installation pattern. The only difference is in its mounting on the machine itself. Modern products have on their body a lot of tips for threading, which greatly simplifies the process itself - it will become more difficult to make a mistake and incorrectly thread the thread.

The thread in the needle must be threaded into the groove, which is located along the needle. It is determined after running a finger along the length of the needle.

Overlock should be filled, focusing on the scheme indicated on the cover. There is a scheme for a rotary machine, because such sewing tools are old-style units.

If you need to thread an old-style sewing machine, in this case, you can focus on the instructions on the device itself

Threading the rotary machine:

  • Attach the spool of thread to the machine;
  • Thread the thread into the upper thread tensioner carefully;
  • Bring it out using a compensation spring that looks like a hook;
  • Thread the thread into the threader, it has a special hook;
  • Having finished with the thread guide, lower the thread down and insert it into special clamps up to the needle.

Rotary sewing machines use a fork that allows the thread to be thrown over itself. This replaces the thread guide. Such machines exist, but are rare. These include the machine Rzhev, Volga.

sewing machine threading errors

If the stitching is looping, or rings of thread are formed, then this means that the thread in the sewing machine is not threaded correctly. This happens due to the weak tension of the upper or lower thread. Sometimes it seems that it is worth setting only the lower thread correctly, and everything will be in order. This is an erroneous opinion.

The quality of the stitch depends on the top thread.

It is necessary to choose better threads, preferably those that can cope with even the most harmful fabric - knitted. To prevent the stitch from looping, you need to see if the thread guide is pulling the thread. If not, correct this mistake and continue to do what you love.

Wrong threading will cause the sewing machine to work incorrectly.

What other errors are there that lead to a poor-quality line:

  1. The spring that regulates the tension of the thread does not press it well. It is easily determined. The presser foot is released, the thread is tucked into the needle and pulled up. Then the foot rises, is released again and the thread is pulled again. These manipulations must be done several times, noting how tightly the thread stretches. If the thread does not create any problems during tension, then the tensioner spring is stuck.
  2. The thread tension is too strong. It happens that the thread is literally like a guitar string, very tense and taut. This is especially noticeable when stitching on the bottom thread. The line winds and runs unevenly. In this case, the regulation bottom thread and its tension.
  3. The bottom thread is thicker than the top thread. The upper thread is the leading link in the entire line. It is she who should be responsible for the bottom. Moreover, the lower thread should be elastic and thin. The reliability of the machine and the quality of the manufactured product depend on this.

For people who are just getting started with a sewing machine, threading can seem like such a daunting task that they are ready to give up sewing altogether. Instead of letting your sewing machine sit idle and collect dust, it's smarter to just learn how to thread it properly. You will have to start work by winding the bobbin, if it has not yet been prepared, after which it will be necessary to thread the upper (bobbin) and lower (bobbin) threads into the machine.

Steps

Part 1

Winding the bobbin

    Place the spool of thread on the spool pin. Attach the spool of thread to the spool pin on the top of the sewing machine. The spool should be positioned so that the thread unwinds from it counterclockwise.

    Pull the thread from the spool. Pull the bobbin thread to unwind it a little and loop it through the thread tension disc from above on the sewing machine. Typically, this tensioner is located at the opposite end of the upper side of the sewing machine from the spool, approximately above the needle. A small wire can also be attached to the disc tensioner to help hold the thread in place.

    Attach the end of the bobbin thread to the bobbin. Next, you need to thread the end of the bobbin thread into one of the holes on the spool, and then wind several turns of thread on the bobbin axis for its primary fixation.

    • Be aware that you can sometimes buy pre-threaded bobbins at fabric and craft stores if you don't feel like bothering with winding the bobbins yourself.
  1. Install the bobbin onto the winder pin. The small bobbin winding pin is also usually located on the top of the sewing machine near the spool pin. Place the bobbin on this pin. Then move the pin to the right or move the lock next to it to the left (depending on the design of the sewing machine) to fix the bobbin in the winding position.

    • At the moment the bobbin is fixed, a slight click should be heard when you move the pin or latch to the desired position.
  2. Start winding the bobbin. Start winding the bobbin for a few seconds by pressing the foot controller of the sewing machine or the special bobbin winding button (if your sewing machine has one). This will ensure that the thread is securely attached to the bobbin. After a few turns of the bobbin, you can stop to cut off the end of the thread sticking out of its hole.

    Finish winding. Gently press your foot on the foot controller of the sewing machine or press the winder button again to completely fill the bobbin with thread. Winding may stop automatically when the bobbin is full, but if this does not happen, stop it yourself when the thread is wound on the bobbin almost flush with its outer edge.

    Remove the bobbin from the pin. Slide the winder pin or latch to its original position (if not automatically) and remove the bobbin. The spool and bobbin will still be tied together with thread, so take your scissors and cut it so that a tail about 5-7.5 cm long remains on the bobbin.

    • Once the bobbin is ready, you can start threading the sewing machine.

    Part 2

    Upper threading

    Install the coil onto the coil pin. The spool pin will be located on the top right of the sewing machine. In size, it is noticeably larger than another pin designed for winding the bobbin, which can also be nearby. Place the spool on the pin and unwind some thread from it.

    • The spool can be more stable when sewing if you set it so that the thread comes out from behind it when you look at it from the front.
    • If the sewing machine has an upper threading pattern, pay attention to the mark on the location of the spool pin and the direction of winding the thread from the spool.
  3. Hook the thread into the thread guide. Pull up the thread from the spool on top of the sewing machine. Draw the thread to the left along the top side of the sewing machine and pass it through the thread guide located there. The thread guide is a piece of metal or plastic protruding from the top that the thread clings to before going down.

    • Be sure to guide the thread behind the thread guide, not in front of it, so that it can then safely slide down the front of the sewing machine and continue to make its U-shaped path there.
    • Most likely, the machine will have a scheme for guiding the thread through this section.
  4. Pull the thread down to hook it onto the disc tensioner. Following the arrows on the machine body, pull the thread from the thread guide towards you. Next, it will be necessary to hook it to the disk tensioner located lower in front of the sewing machine body, and then again raise the thread up and pass it through or along the second thread guide (often represented by a slot). As a result, the front of the thread forms an elongated letter “U”.

    Pass the thread through the thread take-up. After the thread has been shaped into a “U”, you will need to hook the thread or pass it through the hole in the thread take-up located at the top, and then lower it down towards the needle mechanism. The thread take-up is a metal part that sticks out of the sewing machine body from the slot of the second thread guide. The thread take-up has a special hole or hook through which the thread must pass. When you complete this step, the thread will already draw a large S-shaped zigzag on the front of the sewing machine body.

  5. Thread the sewing machine needle. Pull the thread towards the needle. Hook the thread on the last thread guide above the needle (if provided by the design of the sewing machine), and then thread the thread into the small eye of the needle and pull out a tail about 10 cm long on the opposite side. Then pass the tail of the thread under the sewing machine foot through the slot in its front part .

    • Now the upper thread of the sewing machine is fully threaded, and you only need to thread the bobbin thread before you can start sewing.

    Part 3

    Threading the lower thread

    Remove the cover from the shuttle mechanism. The shuttle mechanism is usually hidden under a cover, which is located on the platform of the sewing machine body directly in front of the needle or slightly to the side of it. Find this cover and open it. Inside you will see a hook into which you will need to insert and thread the bobbin.

    • The hook cover should come off easily. If you're having trouble getting it off, check your sewing machine manual to make sure you're really trying to open the hook.
    • In some models of sewing machines, there may be another protective cover on the hook itself. It will also need to be removed to get to the place where the bobbin is inserted.

Proper threading of threads into the device when sewing is one of the important conditions for sewing a neat and beautiful seam. If one of them is not threaded correctly, this increases the risk of tearing the fabric, ruining the needle, and even breaking the machine.

Before threading the sewing machine, carefully read the instructions for the device from the manufacturer. It not only describes the general principles of handling threads, but also the features of threading for a particular model.

The correct order in which threads are threaded

The procedure for threading threads depends on the model of the machine and the manufacturer. It may differ between modern sewing devices and old-style machines.

As a rule, the process begins with winding the thread on the bobbin. It is necessary to put the bobbin on a special rod at the top of the machine, and the spool on the holder. The thread is pulled through the tension disk on the bobbin and the foot pedal is depressed. The machine will stop winding when the bobbin is full.

Upper threading

The process of threading threads on modern machines is usually straightforward, since all the devices through which the thread must be passed are located at the front of the body and are intuitive. In addition, manufacturers give a designation on the body how to properly guide the thread.

Important! Before starting threading, raise the presser foot lever and bring the needle to its highest point.

The coil is installed horizontally on the holder and fixed with a cap. The thread is unwound from it from front to bottom. Her path is as follows:

  • under the clove of the thread guide and under its plate from the back to the front;
  • down and into the upper thread guide lever from right to left;
  • in the lower thread guide located on the needle bar - bring the thread from right to left;
  • into the eye of the needle.

When threading the upper threads, an automatic needle threader is often used. With it, it is convenient to thread the thread into the small eye of the needle.

Threading the lower thread

In order to properly load the shuttle with threads, you need to find out its type and, accordingly, the method of refueling.

The vertical swing shuttle is installed in the old models of "Seagulls" (for example, "Seagull 132 M" or "Seagull 143 A") and some types of Verita s machines. Due to the reliability and ease of operation of this type of shuttle, manufacturers prefer to use it in modern budget class cars: for example, the Bernina 330 and Jaguar EL 223.

When threading, insert the wound bobbin into the cap and then pull the thread under its leaf spring. It is easy to check if the threading was correct just by pulling the end of the thread: the bobbin in the cap should rotate counterclockwise. The cap with the bobbin must be put on the bobbin pin, a slight click will signal that the bobbin case is securely fastened.

We hold the tip of the removed upper thread with our fingers and slowly rotate the flywheel wheel away from us. The needle goes down and reverse movement pulls the loop - picks up and brings the thread out from below.

The horizontal shuttle is often built into mid-range machines. Its feature is the absence of a bobbin case. The wound bobbin is placed directly in the hook, which greatly facilitates refilling. It is convenient to observe the bobbin through a transparent window in the needle plate: you can see when the thread ends and it is time to add it so that the line does not break in the middle. Most models of Brother machines are equipped with this type of shuttle: electromechanical from the Comfort series and electric from the Innov-is series. In the Janome Lady series or DecorExcel machines, the shuttle is also a horizontal shuttle.

General Rules for Threading the Standard Sewing Machine

Before inserting thread into a new sewing machine, read the instructions for the device. Even for professional seamstresses, it may contain new information for them about which side to enter the thread into the eye of the needle in this particular model of the machine.

General rules refills are. First - the upper thread:

  • disconnect the device from the mains and lift the thread guide up, slowly turning the hand wheel towards you;
  • install the spool on the holder - the thread should unwind from the back;
  • pass the thread through the upper conductor and draw it around the lever so that it remains on the right;
  • thread the thread into the lower conductor;
  • insert into the needle from the side of the long groove.

Important! Depending on the manufacturer of the sewing device and model, the thread can be threaded into the needle either from the right or from the left.

To thread the lower thread, insert the wound bobbin into the cap. The tip of the thread should peek out of it at least 10 cm. Then turn the flywheel so that the upper thread captures the lower one and pulls it up, forming a loop.

At the end of the installation, the ends of both threads are pulled back, behind the foot.

Detailed diagram: how to thread in old-style sewing machines

The oldest type of machines include the German sewing devices "Kehler" and "Singer", released approximately at the beginning of the last century. Often, seamstresses share their impressions of these machines on the forums, inherited from their grandmothers. Impressions are usually full of admiration, as the devices are very reliable. A number of old cars are supplemented by the Veritas, Chaika 134 and Podolsk 142 models. All these machines share a certain threading principle.

Before threading the upper thread, it is necessary to prepare the bobbin, since its winding involves the use of a spool and handwheel. It is necessary to put the bobbin on the winder, draw the thread from the spool between the washers of the disc that regulates the tension, and wind it a little on the bobbin. Move the flywheel to idle and rotate it, the thread will wind itself. Winding will stop when the bobbin is full.

In older sewing machines, all the devices for threading the upper thread are located on the front of the body, so threading them is easy and convenient. The order of its conduction from the coil to the needle is as follows:

  • insertion into the holes of the upper thread guide;
  • pulling around the tensioner between its washers and through the guide spring on it, and then under the hook to its left;
  • swiping up into the thread take-up lever;
  • inserting in series into the thread guides above and on the needle bar.

The procedure is completed by pulling the thread into the eye of the needle away from you and pulling its tip 10-15 cm. The thread is drawn back, between the teeth of the foot.

To thread the lower thread, pull out the plate covering the hook. The wound bobbin is inserted into the cap, the tip of the thread from it is passed into the slot and threaded under the spring plate. The cap with the bobbin inside is put on until it stops on the rod in the shuttle, holding the latch, and then the latch is released. This movement helps to firmly fix the cap in the shuttle socket.

Threading process for industrial machines

Although the device of an industrial machine is much more complicated than that of a household sewing machine, the threading sequence is similar.

They start with the bottom thread: the wound bobbin must be installed in the cap, then move the plate and insert it into the shuttle.

For the upper thread, you will need the following step-by-step actions:

  • install the coil on the holder;
  • thread through the hole in the guide plate and down through the raised thread guide;
  • pass the thread through the tension regulator, controller, compensator and disc nose;
  • insert a needle into the eye - on the left or right, depending on the model of the machine;
  • turn the handwheel away from you so that the upper thread pulls out the lower one;
  • bring the threads back between the foot and the plate.

The thread can be threaded into the guide plate from any convenient side.

Possible errors in threading

If the thread is not threaded correctly, the thread tension during sewing will either be too tight or too tight. This is shown when stitching:

  • the bobbin thread is incorrectly threaded: on the surface of the product, the stitching looks like a straight line without stitches, or the bobbin thread is visible on the upper part of the product;
  • The upper thread is not threaded correctly: the stitches on the wrong side look like tangled loops, or the bobbin thread looks like a line without stitches, or the bobbin thread is visible from the wrong side.

Checking if threading is correct

To make sure the machine is well threaded, test stitch on a piece of scrap paper. An even, neat seam and easy running of the machine can indicate the correct installation.

If the bobbin thread forms tangled stitches, the stitching breaks, the bobbin thread does not pick up, this means a threading error. The best solution is to pull out the bobbin, pull out the upper thread, remove the spool and rethread the threads again, referring to the threading chart supplied with the sewing machine.
