The Holy Protection Monastery The Holy Protection Monastery is located in Moscow, on Taganskaya Street, 58. The Holy Protection Monastery was founded in 1635 by Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich. And the construction was completed twenty years later, in the reign of Alexei Mikhailovich, on

The year of the martyrs Anthony, John and Eustathius in an oak grove on the outskirts of Vilna (now Vilnius), where criminals were executed, this land began to be honored by the Orthodox. Two years later, Christians, taking advantage of the patronage of the second wife of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Olgerd, Juliana, begged for a hill for prayer - the place of execution of the saints. Here was built wooden church in the name of the Holy Trinity. Her throne, according to legend, is located on the site of an oak tree, on which the Vilna martyrs suffered for the confession of the Holy Trinity. Their miraculous relics discovered incorruptible were also transferred to this church.

Trinity Monastery and the Orthodox Brotherhood in the fight against the union

Within the post-war USSR, the monastery not only remained open, but also improved. On July 13, the solemn return of the relics of the holy Vilna martyrs to the monastery took place, where this day has been solemnly celebrated ever since. In - years, steam heating was installed in the Church of the Holy Spirit, in the year the entire monastery complex was connected to the city's heating system. In the same year, the chapel in the name of the Apostle John the Theologian in the main church was restored and consecrated, at the same time an elevator was equipped in the bell tower, and the fraternal building was also landscaped.

After the collapse of the USSR, under Metropolitan Chrysostom of Vilna, the cathedral church of the Holy Spirit was thoroughly renovated. In - years, the floor coverings of the main temple were overhauled, the wooden beams were replaced with metal ones, and the floor was laid with ceramic tiles. At the same time, the cave church was expanded and two entrances were made to it. Inside and outside the church building carried out cosmetic repairs. In July, the 400th anniversary of the monastery and the 650th anniversary of the murder of the Vilna martyrs were widely celebrated. At that time, Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Rus' donated Eucharistic vessels to the monastery as a prayerful memory of visiting the Holy Spirit Monastery.

In 2000, a public library of spiritual literature was opened in the Holy Spirit Monastery, which by the second half of the 2000s had about 13,000 volumes. On Sundays, the monastery hosted meetings between clergy and laity, discussions on issues of faith, and viewing of audio and video materials. During recent years the monastery provided free meals daily to about thirty people in need, and a small hotel for pilgrims was set up.

The formation of the Holy Spirit Monastery dates back to the first quarter of the 12th century. It was founded by the disciples of the educator of the Vyatichi - the Monk Hieromartyr John Kuksha.

Initially, the monastery was located near the current village of Crosses, Novosilsky District, Oryol Region, and consisted of about 600 brethren, who knew how not only to fulfill church requirements, but also, if necessary, to stand up with weapons in their hands. Orthodox faith and the Fatherland... For example, in 1380 a group of monks from the Holy Spirit Monastery as part of an ambush regiment, which included the Novosilskaya squad, participated in the Battle of Kulikovo.

In 1495 the monastery was transferred from the big Yelets to the Lithuanian road and was located near Novosil. Over time, three magnificent temples, residential and outbuildings, surrounded by a stone monastery fence, were erected here. The outpost of Orthodoxy had a strong subsidiary farm. But, as before, in a difficult time he always put up his warriors to defend the Fatherland. In particular, there is a direct relationship between the Holy Spirit Monastery and the results of the famous Battle of Judgment (1555).

According to the petition of Abbot of the Holy Spirit Monastery Simon about the need to strengthen the Novosilskaya fortress and, in general, the defensive line from Crimean Tatars and Nagais (this is also a genuine historical fact!) In 1644, the first sovereign of the Romanov dynasty, Mikhail Fedorovich, visited the monastery. He stayed with the abbot for several days, then carefully examined the city fortress, talked with the military leaders. Having drawn the necessary conclusions, the sovereign immediately ordered to significantly strengthen the garrison of the fortress. Novosilsk gunners, archers and Cossacks were issued a certificate for land ownership. Then this sovereign's decision was extended to all the marked borders of Rus' the Great.

Repeatedly visited the Holy Spirit Monastery and Alexei Mikhailovich Romanov, the quietest and wisest ruler of the Russian state, who, as you know, managed to significantly streamline domestic legislation (Code of Laws). There is no doubt that the spiritual instructions of Alexei Mikhailovich in the monastery also had a beneficial effect on his activities.

It can be said without exaggeration that the Holy Spirit monastery From time immemorial it has been a place especially revered by Orthodox Christians. Not only emperors and influential statesmen came here for spiritual advice. Strings of pilgrims from all over the Russian land stretched here. Here was one of the greatest Russian shrines - the miraculous icon of St. Nicholas, brought to Novosil in 1153 by the second wife of Yuri Dolgoruky Olga, who was also the sister of the Byzantine emperor Manuel. This icon was so revered in Rus' that in the favorable summer time it was regularly taken around the cities and towns of Russia (until 1917). After coming to power obsessed with the satanic idea, the Bolsheviks miraculous icon is lost. What her future fate is unknown.

The Holy Spirit Monastery was closed in 1918. The communists destroyed it in 1934: two churches were blown up - St. Nicholas with the Exaltation of the Cross and in the name of the Image of Christ the Savior Not Made by Hands. Miraculously, only the Church of St. Life-Giving Trinity, since it was decided to use it as a warehouse for storing grain and spare parts for agricultural machinery. The residential and outbuildings of the monastery, as well as the monastery fence, were completely destroyed.

During the Great Patriotic War, the Church of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity was badly damaged. Only the central part with a dilapidated dome, the altar and some supporting structures of the refectory remained from it.

After the war, the Church of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity was also used as a warehouse. On the territory of the monastery, the leaders of the local collective farm arranged an engine yard, put containers with fuel and lubricants. And this bacchanalia continued for decades ...

By the time of the resumption of monastic life, most of the buildings were partially or completely destroyed. Originally had the status of a parish.

The revival of the Holy Spirit Monastery was started in 2004 with the blessing of the shiigumen and confessor of Optina Hermitage, and now the confessor His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' Schema-Archimandrite Elijah.

By the decision of the Holy Synod of December 27, 2005 (Journal No. 117), the parish was transformed into a diocesan monastery of the Holy Spirit.

In 2010, the laying of the western and southern parts of the monastery fence with watchtowers and a chapel continued, and the construction of the southern part of the monastery fence with a platform began. Restoration of the monastery church of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity continued. Active work was underway to build temple complex, distributing the gas pipeline and heating networks. The landscaping of the monastery territory continued. To date, the narthex and the refectory part of the Church of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity have been restored, work is underway to restore the central part and the altar of this temple. The northern part of the monastery fence with entrance gates and two watchtowers has been built, the brickwork of the eastern and western parts of the fence has been completed by 70 percent, and the construction of the southern part has begun. A gatehouse, an almshouse, a refectory with a kitchen for monks and novices have been built, the construction of a two-story fraternal building and a warm garage is being completed. An artesian well was drilled and a water supply and sewerage system was installed in the almshouse. An underground gas pipeline has been laid to the main monastic facilities.

The restoration of the Holy Spirit Monastery is being carried out in accordance with a long-term development plan based on the preserved historical and architectural information and photographs of the monastery from the beginning of the 20th century. Everything is done in order to recreate the ancient Orthodox shrine in its former glory and grandeur.

We feel constant patronage and support in the difficult and difficult task of reviving the monastery from our confessor, Fr. Or me. God bless him for many years to come. He patiently and persistently works to form a friendly and close-knit team of the brethren of the monastery. Newly arriving novices we receive with the blessing of Father Elijah. He always comes to us for tonsure with great joy. Brothers in the Holy Spirit Monastery, thank God, every year everything is added. To date, there are already nine monks (including three hieromonks and two hierodeacons) and seven novices. In good faith, for the glory of God, fifteen laborers carry out the work on the restoration and construction of monastic objects.

Orthodox Holy Spirit Monastery.
In September, on the way to Barcelona, we decided to visit Vilnius. Not passing through, but thoroughly walking around the capital of Lithuania, seeing the sights of the once accessible and beloved city, which today cannot be entered without a Schengen visa.
Walking through the Old City, we saw the Orthodox Holy Spirit Monastery and decided to look into it.
The beauty. There are few places where such monumental religious buildings have been preserved.

Entering the gates of the monastery, we immediately saw in front of us the cathedral church of the Holy Spirit. It was a normal weekday. There were a lot of people in the church, photography is prohibited. We walked and admired the beauty.
When the service ended, the caretaker allowed us to take a few shots. I will show them to you, as well as briefly tell the history of the shrine.

The Church of the Holy Spirit has several names. This is the church of the Holy Spirit Monastery, and the Temple in honor of the Descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles, the temple Orthodox monastery in Vilnius. This is the most important Orthodox church Lithuania, a monument of history and architecture. Temple address: Aušros Vartu 10 (Aušros Vartų g. 10, formerly Ostrovorotnaya street).

Initially, a wooden church was built at the expense of two sisters Feodora Volovich (the wife of the Brest governor) and Anna Volovich (the wife of the Smolensk governor) in 1597. This piece of land also belonged to them.
After the conclusion of the Union of Brest in 1596, the previously existing Orthodox Vilna Holy Trinity Monastery came under the rule of the Basilian Uniates. After they began to expel the Orthodox from the monastery, gradually formed new monastery at the built Holy Spirit Church. This happened in 1609.

The first rector of the monastery was Archimandrite Leonty (Karpovich), known for his confessional feat: in 1610 he was imprisoned.
The monastery was originally subordinate to the Patriarch of Constantinople.
But since 1686 - in the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarch.

The main throne of the monastery cathedral was consecrated in honor of the Descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles.
The cathedral has two limits: the right one is in the name of the apostle and evangelist John the Theologian, the left one is in the name of the saints Equal-to-the-Apostles kings Constantine and Elena.
Below, under the main altar of the cathedral, there is a cave temple in the name of the holy Vilna martyrs Anthony, John and Eustathius, canonized at the end of the 14th century.
AT cave temple buried Metropolitan of Vilna and Lithuania Joseph (Semashko) (November 23, 1868).

The architectural style of the church is Borocco.
The church contains the relics of the Vilna martyrs.
The church is active.
So, if you are in Vilnius, be sure to visit the Old Town and go to the Cathedral Church of the Holy Spirit.
By the way, the Orthodox Holy Spirit Monastery is both female and male.
Yes, you heard right. Male and convents are located in the same fence and are the only Orthodox monasteries operating in the territory of Lithuania.

The city of Timashevsk in the Krasnodar Territory is known for the monastery located there - the Holy Spirit Monastery. It is located on the outskirts of the city, but even during its construction, the future rector said that he would become the "center".

Where is the Holy Spirit Monastery located on the map?

You will find it in the Southern microdistrict of Timashevsk, where Malo-Vygonnaya and Druzhby streets intersect. Nearby flows a branch - Kirpiltsy.

The history of the sacred place

In 1987, Father George took over the leadership of the Holy Ascension Parish in Timashevsk. Then he wished to build a temple here. To do this, it was necessary to get a building site. Local authorities not in a hurry to allocate land. The priest had to endure many difficulties and harassment on their part.

The way out of the predicament was the acquisition of a house on 15 acres of marshland. There is a legend with this hut: in the 20th century, a far-sighted holy fool girl living not far from it predicted that a monastery would be built on this site.

In the fall of 1991, the church was completed and consecrated in honor of the descent of the Holy Spirit. Batiushka at that time wanted to go to the place of his former service, but God's will was different. Vladyka Isidore opens a monastery here, ordains him to the rank of archimandrite and appoints him to the position of viceroy.

The monastery has shrines:

  • an ark with particles of 23 holy saints of God;
  • list of images of St. healer Panteleimon, brought from Athos;
  • icons of the Mother of God "Vladimirskaya" and "Burning Bush";
  • a piece of Mamre oak brought from the Holy Land.

The story of the "Vladimir" icon

Father George, when he was still serving in Church of the Epiphany Arkhangelsk region, the face of "Vladimir Mother of God brought by a parishioner and told the following story:

The woman's grandfather was a priest. In the 1930s, when the clergy were massively arrested and an anti-religious struggle was waged, this also affected her grandfather. One evening, the commissars came into the house and ordered him to "get ready for the road." Batiushka was taken aback and asked for time to get ready, but he himself turned to the holy corner and began to pray. Everyone noticed how droplets of tears appeared on the image of the Virgin. The commissar got angry, took out a revolver and started shooting at the icon, after which he shot the priest in a rage.

The relatives hid the shrine and carefully kept it, passing it from generation to generation. Over time, the grandmother gave it to her granddaughter, and she brought it to church. This image was brought by Archim. George in the Holy Spirit Monastery of Timashevsk. Now it is kept in the temple altar.

About the Confessor of the Timashevsk Convent

Born about. Georgy February 6, 1942 After leaving school, he went to obedience in Transfiguration Monastery in Transcarpathia. In 1961, when the monastery was closed, he left for the Nikolaev region. In 1962 he was called up for military service. Upon his return, he went to live in Irkutsk. There, in December 1968, he was tonsured with the name George. Then he was ordained a hierodeacon and then a hieromonk. He served first in the Murmansk, and then in the Arkhangelsk region. In 1978 he studied at the Moscow Seminary.

In the Krasnodar diocese, Fr. George arrived after Metropolitan Isidore, who at that time was still a bishop. He devoted 19 years to the improvement of the "island of spirituality" in the city of Timashevsk. Here he was tonsured into the great schema with the name of Savva. During the years of his ministry, many changes took place - the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord was rebuilt, buildings for household purposes and four farmsteads were added in nearby settlements.

However, the abbot is better known for his gift of herbal healing and prayer. He was a herbalist who knew his business well. He learned the art of using the gifts of nature in the treatment of various diseases in his youth, being a novice in the city of Chernivtsi (in Ukraine), on the border with Romania.

There was always a queue for him. People went to receive spiritual and bodily treatment, the Holy Spirit Timashevsk Monastery was visited by thousands. Batiushka gave herbs that helped cure those diseases that doctors of official, recognized medicine could not cope with.

The life of monks today

At first it was inhabited by only 12 monks. Over time, their number grew to 80. Following the ancient rules of residence of monastic communities, they are fed from the labors of their hands.

Today, 400 hectares of land have been allocated for the monastery for planting crops. The brethren bear different obediences. Some are engaged in the cultivation of vegetables, fruits, cereals, herbs, others work in the fraternal refectory, on prosphora, in garages. There is breeding of poultry, cattle and pigs. Surplus products - eggs, milk and meat - are sold.

During the construction of the church, all the finishing work was carried out by the monks: they painted the temple walls, made wooden carved icon cases. Today, all the splendor of the temple can be seen in the photo.

In 2011, Fr. George went to the Lord, but the monks continue his "work" - they collect herbs and make all kinds of gatherings and teas for various ailments according to the preserved recipes. All this is sold in the monastery shop. Those who have already tried herbal teas many times leave positive feedback about them.
