It often happens like this: a person prays to God, but God does not seem to hear him, although the prayer is fervent and sincere. But it is worth the same person to turn in his prayer to some saint - and help comes immediately. Why does this happen? Surely it does not follow from this that the saint is “stronger” than God? Of course it shouldn't. Moreover, only God can give help through prayer.

And yet, why is prayer to a saint sometimes more effective than prayer to God himself? To understand this, you need to think about the words with which we pray to the saints:

Holy Father (or Holy Mother), pray to God for us!

We ask the saint to pray to God for us. And this prayer is heard much faster than when we pray to God alone. That's right: praying to the saint, we ask him to join our prayer. After all, prayer is a special skill. Few people are fluent in it. Even when we turn to God with all our heart, the mind is still distracted by some extraneous objects. Often a person only thinks that he is praying, but in fact he is thinking about things that are very far from prayer. No wonder God doesn't hear him! The saint will never be distracted from prayer, because prayerful standing before the Lord is his only “work”. Actually, a person was called a saint because he managed to get so close to God that God began to act through him. After all, not a single person in the world is holy in himself. Only God is holy. Holy and means - God's, that is, who came to God. Every person has the opportunity to come to God, to become a saint. But not everyone succeeds.

The path to God is both simple and complex at the same time. It is simple, because God is always near a person, always hears him. And it is difficult because our worldly life is full of vanity - worldly worries, desires, pleasures, temptations. Every now and then a person falls into the snares of these vain deeds and forgets about God. This is where the saints come to the rescue. They themselves have gone through this difficult path, and they know where danger awaits a person. Saints are our irreplaceable guides on the path to God, and therefore we call on them for help.

About how important it is to pray to the saints, Archimandrite Sergius (Spassky) wrote: “There is no doubt that if there were no saints of God on earth; then there would be no us. If righteous Noah and his family had not been found on earth before the global flood, then the entire human race would have perished in the waves of the flood. Secondly, the saints of God lead us to the kingdom of heaven by their virtuous life, which they led on earth. There is no doubt that the sufferings of the martyrs for faith in Christ confirmed in their time many weak Christians in the faith, they drew many pagans to Christ and served to spread the faith of Christ, by which we are saved; but the reading of the lives of the martyrs, saints, reverend men and women, Christ for the sake of the holy fools and other saints, how many saved after them, how many wiser and wiser in the fight against the temptations of the world and evil spirits. Pray for us, holy father, for your spiritual children, as if having boldness towards the Heavenly King, do not be silent for us to the Lord and do not despise us, who honor you with faith and love. It’s not imaginary that the creature is dead: even if the body has passed away from us, but even after death you remain alive. Do not depart from us in spirit, preserving us from the arrows of the enemy, and all the charms of demons, and the wiles of the devil, our good shepherd; moreover, even the relics of your cancer are always visible before our eyes, but your holy soul with angelic armies, with incorporeal faces, with Heavenly powers, at the throne of the Almighty, is worthy of fun.
