Father Nikolai Gundyaev: grandfather told us - do not be afraid of anyone but God (the brother of the Patriarch shares his memories - media materials). Patriarch Kirill (Vladimir Mikhailovich Gundyaev)

Famous German magazine "Stern" due to the dense ignorance of their employees at one time - even when His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' visited Germany in the rank of Metropolitan of Smolensk and Kaliningrad - told readers about the family and personal life of monk Cyril. And about a cozy house in Switzerland, and about his passion for skiing and fast driving in sports cars, and about his wife, and even about children and dogs ... And out of greater respect, he even named Father Kirill neither more nor less, but "great family man".

It must be said that Lydia is a faithful common-law spouse and the same age as Holiness, and not a young "kept woman - a spoiled woman." They with "holiness" gave birth to good and smart children. Another thing is why the ROC does not tell the truth and why does Lydia continue the tobacco (from the devil) business? Why does the Russian Orthodox Church consider ordinary conception (a gift from the Almighty) to be vicious?

That's what wickedness! No, to call the PR service of the Patriarchate and find out how Right tell readers about the difficult hermit prayer life of high-ranking monks! Well, by God, like small Samoyeds - “what I see is what I sing!”

As a result, since then, all sorts of blasphemers-ahhalniks have been "inclining" the poor Lidia Mikhailovna Leonova in every imaginable way. Even His Holiness himself, in connection with the recent apartment scandal, was forced to make excuses - they say, she is not my wife, but just a fighting friend, registered with me in the same living space. This, they say, is my sister, like, "a nun in the world." Saying "sister", one must assume, he meant, of course, not his only sister in the whole world, Elena, but "sister" in faith, in the spirit of entrepreneurship. After all, he usually addresses everyone like this: “Brothers and sisters!”. Therefore, Lydia Leonova is also his “sister”, although not his own.

Lidia Mikhailovna Leonova- (01/27/1947) - "A nun in the world", who for 38 years - since the distant "Soviet" 1974 - has been relentlessly accompanying monk Kirill through life. Moves with him to all new places of residence, accompanies him on trips and participates in his commercial enterprises. According to spiteful critics, more than 300 tobacco commercial organizations were registered in her name. It was Lidia Mikhailovna that the Stern employees had in mind when they called Kirill “an excellent family man,” and it is she who is now officially registered in the apartment and lives together with the monk Vladimir Gundyaev.

And here is how Alexander Soldatov, editor-in-chief of the independent network resource Portal-Credo.Ru, tells about this in an interview with Yuri Vasiliev (03/23/2012): “ Question: We talked about the option with my sister above. Are there more or less official explanations of who the monk Kirill Lidia Leonova is? In addition to the communal neighbor, of course. Answer: The official historiography is silent about Mrs. Leonova. ... There is an unofficial historiography that originates from the publication of the German magazine "Stern" around 1993-1994, where Metropolitan Kirill is described as "an exemplary family man." And it is even claimed that he has children. Further, our portal, citing various sources - in particular, Sergei Bychkov from Moskovsky Komsomolets, who conducted various investigations regarding the life of the future patriarch - wrote for several years that this Mrs. Leonova is the daughter of a certain official from the Leningrad regional party committee. The future patriarch met her back in the early 70s, when he was a student at the Leningrad Theological Academy. ... since then, she has accompanied him everywhere - she lived in Smolensk, and now in Moscow. Therefore, the word "sister", perhaps, should be understood in a spiritual sense, and not in a physiological one. (http://www.svobodanews.ru/content/article/24525100.html).

Elena Mikhailovna Gundyaeva- real and the only sister of the Holy One. She devoted her life to the Church, for many years she has been working as the director of an Orthodox gymnasium and is proud of her brother.

However, not only German, but also patriarchal "freaks" also do not catch mice (their business acumen is not the same as that of Cyril himself!). No, in order to quickly clean up all the biographical "apocrypha", so they have left them to this day - they say that Cyril has only a sister, Elena, a pilgrim, and only a brother, Nikolai, a pilgrim.

Dominating in information space, they impose on the world their understanding of the economy and state structure, seek to suppress the determination to uphold values and ideals that are different from their values and ideals associated with the idea of a consumer society. The Russian people are the most important subject of national relations in Russia and their national interests should not be ignored, but should be taken into account with maximum attention in order to achieve harmony with the interests of other national communities.".

Scandals, rumors

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, a newspaper journalist "Moscow's comsomolets" Sergei Bychkov accused Metropolitan Kirill of using tax breaks provided by the government in the early 1990s to import alcohol (church wine) and tobacco products.

According to the newspaper, the financial and trading group "Nika" was engaged in the import of tobacco products, the vice-president of which was the archpriest Vladimir Veriga- Commercial Director of the Department of External church connections led by Cyril. Journalist Sergei Bychkov published a number of articles about this commercial activity.

Then Metropolitan Kirill, recognizing the fact of import transactions on behalf of the DECR, repeatedly denied accusations of personal interest, he called such publications "a very specific political order", and "not newspapers, but one newspaper" write about this.

After the collapse of the USSR, the Commission of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of Russia to investigate the causes and circumstances GKChP from the sources handed over to her concluded that the authorities KGB In the USSR, church bodies were used for their own purposes by recruiting and sending KGB agents to them.

That is, some of the hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church were agents KGB. Based on a comparison of the well-known foreign trips of agent "Mikhailov" and Vladyka Kirill, the commission formed an opinion about the identity of Vladyka Kirill and agent "Mikhailov". In 2003 a member Moscow Helsinki Group priest Yuri Edelstein sent a letter to the President of Russia V.V. Putin, where he also accused Metropolitan Kirill of having links with the KGB.

In 2005, Kirill supported the position of the mayor of Moscow on a ban on holding a parade of sexual minorities in the city. In an interview with Spiegel magazine in January 2008, he also confirmed his unconditional condemnation of homosexuality, but spoke out against the persecution of persons with a homosexual orientation ( they have the right to live as they see fit).

Visit of the Patriarch to Ukraine by invitation Synod of Ukrainian Orthodox Church (July 27 - August 5, 2009) was accompanied by local riots in Kyiv, as well as protest actions of Ukrainian non-canonical church jurisdictions.

Speaking on 29 July Kiev-Pechersk Lavra at a meeting with the clergy, laity, teachers and students of the Kyiv Theological Academy, the Patriarch criticized " influence on Western Christian theology of the ideas of the Enlightenment and philosophical ideas liberalism".

On August 5, the final day of the visit, Kirill said that he was not opposed to spending half a year in Moscow, half a year in Kyiv, and "would be ready to accept Ukrainian citizenship." The next day the business manager UOC archbishop Mitrofan(Yurchuk) insisted that the last statement was a joking response.

In September of the same year, following the results of the visit of the Patriarch, the newspaper "Arguments of the Week" reported that "a certain circle of so-called security officials" did not like some of the political actions of the Patriarch, in particular, during his visit to Ukraine.

September 25, 2009, while on a visit to Belarus, during a meeting with the President Alexander Lukashenko, Patriarch said: " The Church is always ready to support the strengthening and development of the union of fraternal states and to assist in the dialogue of the Belarusian leadership with the Russian authorities".

Addressing the people from the porch of the Church of All Saints under construction in Minsk, he said that he is aware of himself " as the Patriarch of the people who came out of the Kyiv baptismal font". Apparently he meant that the Moscow Patriarchate does not intend to conform the limits of its local church jurisdiction with the new state borders that arose after the collapse of the USSR.

Kirill called into question the "reality" of the sovereignty of many states with such a statement: " there are many countries in the world that consider themselves sovereign, but which are not able to act, including in the international arena, in full accordance with their national interests". This statement had a great negative resonance.

On February 25, 2010, on the day the fourth President of Ukraine took office, together with Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan) of Kiev and All Ukraine, he delivered a speech to the new head of state, for the first time in the history of Ukraine.

The participation of the Patriarch in the event in connection with the inauguration of the president of a foreign state (the first such act in the history of the Moscow Patriarchate) provoked criticism from a number of politicians in Ukraine. Portal-Credo.Ru distributed officially unconfirmed information that the Moscow Patriarchate is considering the possibility of replacing the Kyiv cathedra with Patriarch Kirill, along with the Moscow cathedra, after the departure of Metropolitan Vladimir.

On Christmas Day 2012, Patriarch Kirill urged the authorities to listen to popular protests and correct the political course, stressing that in terms of the development of democracy in Russia, almost nothing has changed since the Soviet era or has changed only for the worse, since the grassroots level of power, which is in close contact with the people , causes a persistent rejection among the people. But at the same time, he called on people "not to succumb to provocations", "to be able to express disagreement" and "not to destroy the country."

At the beginning of 2012, a loud scandal arose around a court case on compensation for damage to an apartment owned by the Patriarch, in which the defendant was a resident of the neighborhood Yuri Shevchenko. According to the position of the plaintiff registered and living in the patriarch's apartment Lydia Leonova and a court decision, on the basis of an examination performed by experts from the IGIC, the dust from repairs in Shevchenko's apartment contained components hazardous to health, including nanoparticles, and caused damage to the Patriarch's apartment, furniture and book collection.

The amount of the claim amounted to about 19.7 million rubles. Such a large amount of the claim and the unclear status of Leonova caused numerous critical articles in the media and discussion in the blogosphere. In a conversation with a journalist, the Patriarch explained that he had nothing to do with the lawsuit filed by his second cousin Leonova, who was registered in his apartment.

At the same time, Kirill argued that the money that ex-Minister of Health Shevchenko paid Leonova at the suit would be used to clean up the library and charity.

In 2011 on their pages "New Newspaper" reported that the protection of the Patriarch is carried out by employees of the Federal Security Service ( FSO), despite the fact that the Patriarch is not a civil servant. In December 2011, a special amendment was made to the federal law "On Protection". In accordance with it, taxpayers now pay not only for the protection of officials, but also for "other persons." The state ranked the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church among these "other persons", providing him with protection due to the allegedly large number of threats coming to Kirill from "militant atheists."

Archpriest Vladimir Vigilyansky, head of the Patriarch's press service, confirmed to Gazeta.Ru that the Patriarch had a state guard, who stressed that "President Yeltsin made such a decision." However, Patriarch Alexy was guarded much more modestly, according to scheme number three - "just our car plus accompanying employees." Now the protection of the Patriarch is carried out according to the "presidential scheme". This scheme includes "work on the route, at the place of stay, at the retreat. Plus escort. In total, more than 300 employees are involved in the protection of the Patriarch," a source in the press service of the FSO specified.

In 2012, Patriarch Kirill at a meeting with the Minister of Justice Alexander Konovalov once again "trump card" with his watch Breguet for 20 thousand dollars. The servants of the press service of the Patriarchate, wiped the watch in Photoshop, but forgot about their reflection on the table. This fact did not escape the attention of bloggers, who quickly made it the No. 1 news. Further, at the suggestion of Patriarch Kirill himself, the story with the clock received an even more unexpected continuation. First, the Patriarch called the photo with Breguet photoshop, and then unexpectedly recognized the watch as a "gift".

In the same year, the Patriarch made an appeal not to ignore the action committed by the punk band Pussy Riot in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. In many ways, thanks to the irreconcilable position of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Patriarch personally, on August 17, 2012, 3 members of the group were sentenced under the article hooliganism, condemning them to 2 years in prison in a penal colony.

In response to criticism in connection with this, as well as a number of scandalous cases, the Moscow Patriarchate, the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation and some politicians announced an organized campaign to discredit the Patriarch and the Russian Orthodox Church. Patriarch Kirill himself on June 16, 2012, on the air of the program "Word of the Shepherd" on Channel One, called people "who criticize the church" "requiring spiritual healing."

year 2014. Another scandal erupted in connection with the congratulations of Patriarch Kirill on his victory in the presidential elections in Ukraine. Moreover, Kirill did this earlier than the President of the Russian Federation.

"Together with many people, I hope that the powers that are in your hands today will serve the good of both the east, and the west, and the north, and the south of Ukraine", - said Patriarch Kirill.

Many considered Poroshenko’s congratulations on behalf of the Russian Orthodox Church an insult to the inhabitants of eastern Ukraine, against whom a war was unleashed, as well as an insult to the Russian people, against whom, thanks to the efforts of the new Ukrainian government, a propaganda war is being waged.

At the end of September 2015, the Public Network Movement funded by , published on the Internet a photo report allegedly from the rest of the Russian Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church Azimut costing about 680 thousand euros.

It's done. The Patriarch of All Rus' and the Pope of Rome met for the first time in world history. At the beginning of this meeting, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill and Pope Francis exchanged three fraternal kisses and embraced. The first words of Pope Francis addressed to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Kirill: "Finally, now we are brothers." To which Patriarch Kirill replied: "Now everything is easier. We meet in right time" . Pope Francis summed up: "Obviously it is - God's will. We have high expectations from this conversation in our hearts."

Pope Francis to Patriarch Kirill: "Now we are brothers!" And what are you brothers to each other now? Brothers - heretics?

As a result of their historic meeting behind closed doors, the Patriarch of All Rus' and the main heretic on the planet signed a joint Declaration for the goyim, the official text of which was immediately posted on the website of the Moscow Patriarchate, apparently to calm and tenderize their goy flock.

Joint Statement by Pope Francis and His Holiness Patriarch Kirill

“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God the Father, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all” (2 Cor. 13:13).

1. By the will of God and the Father, from whom every gift comes, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, with the assistance of the Holy Spirit the Comforter, we, Francis, Pope of Rome, and Cyril, Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus', have now met in Havana. We give thanks in the Trinity to the glorified God for this meeting, the first in history.

We met with joy as brothers in the Christian faith, who saw each other to “speak mouth to mouth” (2 John 12), from heart to heart, and discuss the relationship between the Churches, the pressing problems of our flock and the prospects for the development of human civilization.

2. Our fraternal meeting took place in Cuba, at the crossroads between North and South, West and East. From this island - a symbol of the hopes of the "New World" and the dramatic events of the history of the twentieth century - we turn our word to all the peoples of Latin America and other continents.

We rejoice that the Christian faith is dynamically developing here today. The powerful religious potential of Latin America, its centuries-old Christian traditions implemented in the life experience of millions of people are the key to the great future of this region.

3. Having met far from the old disputes of the "Old World", we feel with special force the need for joint labors of Catholics and Orthodox, called with meekness and reverence to give an account to the world of our hope (1 Pet. 3:15).

4. We thank God for the gifts that we received through the appearance of His Only Begotten Son into the world. We share a common spiritual Tradition of the first millennium of Christianity. The witnesses of this Tradition are the Blessed Mother of God, the Virgin Mary, and the saints whom we revere. Among them are countless martyrs who showed fidelity to Christ and became the "seed of Christianity."

5. Despite the common Tradition of the first ten centuries, Catholics and Orthodox have been deprived of communion in the Eucharist for almost a thousand years. We are divided by wounds inflicted in conflicts of the distant and recent past, divided and inherited from our predecessors by differences in understanding and explaining our faith in God, one in Three Persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We grieve over the loss of unity, which was the result of human weakness and sinfulness, which occurred contrary to the High Priestly Prayer of Christ the Savior: “May they all be one, as You, Father, in Me, and I in You, so may they also be one in Us” (Jn. 17:21).

6. Aware of the many obstacles to be overcome, we hope that our meeting will contribute to achieving that God-given unity for which Christ prayed. May our meeting inspire Christians all over the world to call on the Lord with new zeal, praying for the complete unity of all His disciples. Let it - in a world that expects from us not only words, but also deeds - become a sign of hope for all people of good will.

7. Determined to do whatever is necessary to overcome the divisions we have historically inherited, we want to unite our efforts to bear witness to the gospel of Christ and the common heritage of the Church of the first millennium, jointly responding to the challenges of the modern world. Orthodox and Catholics must learn to bear a consistent witness to the truth in those areas in which this is possible and necessary. Human civilization has entered a period of epochal change. Christian conscience and pastoral responsibility do not allow us to remain indifferent to the challenges that require a joint response.

8. Our eyes are directed, first of all, to those regions of the world where Christians are persecuted. In many countries of the Middle East and North Africa, our brothers and sisters in Christ are exterminated by entire families, villages and cities. Their temples are subjected to barbarous destruction and plunder, their shrines are desecrated, and their monuments are destroyed. In Syria, Iraq and other countries of the Middle East, we are painfully witnessing the mass exodus of Christians from the land where the spread of our faith began and where they lived from apostolic times along with other religious communities.

9. We call on the international community to take immediate action to prevent further displacement of Christians from the Middle East. As we raise our voice in defense of persecuted Christians, we also empathize with the suffering of adherents of other religious traditions who become victims of civil war, chaos and terrorist violence.

10. In Syria and Iraq, this violence has claimed thousands of lives, leaving millions homeless and without livelihoods. We call on the world community to unite in order to put an end to violence and terrorism, and at the same time, through dialogue, to contribute to the speedy achievement of civil peace. Large-scale humanitarian assistance is needed for the suffering people and the many refugees in neighboring countries.

We ask everyone who can influence the fate of all the abducted, including the Metropolitans of Aleppo Pavel and John Ibrahim, who were captured in April 2013, to do everything necessary for their speedy release.

11. We send up prayers to Christ, the Savior of the world, for the establishment of peace on the land of the Middle East, which is a “work of righteousness” (Is. 32:17), for the strengthening of fraternal coexistence between the various peoples, Churches and religions located on it, for the return of refugees to their homes, for the healing of the wounded and the repose of the souls of the innocent dead.

We appeal to all parties that may be involved in conflicts with an ardent appeal to show goodwill and sit down at the negotiating table. At the same time, it is essential that the international community make every possible effort to put an end to terrorism through common, joint, coordinated action. We call on all countries involved in the fight against terrorism to take responsible, balanced actions. We call on all Christians and all those who believe in God to pray to the Creator and Provider of the world, so that He saves His creation from destruction and does not allow a new world war. In order for the world to be strong and reliable, special efforts are needed to return to common values that unite us, based on the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

12. We bow before the courage of those who own life testify to the truth of the gospel, preferring death to renunciation of Christ. We believe that the martyrs of our time, coming from different Churches, but united by common suffering, are a pledge of Christian unity. To you who suffer for Christ, His apostle addresses his word: “Beloved! … as you share in Christ's sufferings, rejoice, and at the manifestation of his glory you will rejoice and exult” (1 Pet. 4:12-13).

13. In this troubled era, interreligious dialogue is needed. Differences in the understanding of religious truths should not prevent people of different faiths from living in peace and harmony. In the current environment, religious leaders have a special responsibility to educate their flock in a spirit of respect for the beliefs of those who belong to others. religious traditions. Attempts to justify criminal acts with religious slogans are absolutely unacceptable. No crime can be committed in the name of God, "for God is not a God of disorder, but of peace" (1 Cor. 14:33).

14. Bearing witness to the high value of religious freedom, we give thanks to God for an unprecedented revival Christian faith which is currently taking place in Russia and in many countries of Eastern Europe where atheistic regimes dominated for decades. Today, the shackles of militant atheism have been thrown off, and in many places Christians can freely practice their faith. For a quarter of a century, tens of thousands of new churches have been erected here, hundreds of monasteries and theological educational institutions. Christian communities conduct extensive charitable and social activities, providing a variety of assistance to those in need. Orthodox and Catholics often work side by side. They uphold the common spiritual foundations of human community, testifying to the gospel values.

15. At the same time, we are concerned about the situation in so many countries where Christians are increasingly faced with restrictions on religious freedom and the right to testify to their beliefs and live in accordance with them. In particular, we see that the transformation of some countries into secularized societies, alien to any memory of God and His truth, entails a serious danger to religious freedom. We are concerned about the current restriction of the rights of Christians, not to mention their discrimination, when some political forces, guided by the ideology of secularism, which so often becomes aggressive, seek to push them to the margins of public life.

16. The process of European integration, which began after centuries of bloody conflict, was seen by many with hope as a guarantee of peace and security. At the same time, we warn against integration that does not respect religious identity. Being open to the contribution of other religions to our civilization, we are convinced that Europe needs fidelity to its Christian roots. We call on the Christians of Western and Eastern Europe to unite for a joint witness to Christ and the Gospel, so that Europe can preserve its soul, shaped by two thousand years of Christian tradition.

17. Our eyes are turned to people who are in a difficult situation, living in conditions of extreme need and poverty at a time when the material wealth of mankind is growing. We cannot remain indifferent to the fate of the millions of migrants and refugees knocking on the doors of rich countries. Rampant consumption, characteristic of some of the most developed countries, is rapidly depleting the resources of our planet. Growing inequality in the distribution of earthly goods increases the sense of injustice in the imposed system of international relations.

18. Christian Churches are called upon to defend the demands of justice, respect for the traditions of peoples and effective solidarity with all those who suffer. We Christians must not forget that God “chosen the foolish of the world to shame the wise, and God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong; and the lowly things of the world, and those that are lowly and that signify nothing, God chose to abolish that which signifies, so that no flesh can boast before God” (1 Cor. 1:27-29).

19. The family is the natural center of human life and society. We are concerned about the family crisis in many countries. Orthodox and Catholics, sharing the same idea of the family, are called to bear witness to the family as a path to holiness, showing the fidelity of spouses towards each other, their readiness to bear and raise children, solidarity between generations and respect for the weak.

20. The family is based on marriage as an act of free and true love between a man and a woman. Love strengthens their union, teaches them to accept each other as a gift. Marriage is a school of love and fidelity. We regret that other forms of cohabitation are now equated with this union, and the ideas of fatherhood and motherhood, consecrated by the biblical tradition, as a special vocation of a man and woman in marriage, are being squeezed out of public consciousness.

21. We call on everyone to respect the inalienable right to life. Millions of babies are deprived of the very possibility of being born. The voice of the blood of unborn children cries out to God (Genesis 4:10).

The spread of so-called euthanasia leads to the fact that the elderly and the sick begin to feel like an excessive burden for their loved ones and for society as a whole.

We express our concern at the increasing use of biomedical reproductive technologies, as manipulation human life- this is an attempt on the foundations of human existence, created in the image of God. We consider it our duty to recall the immutability of Christian moral principles based on respect for the dignity of a person who is called to live in accordance with the plan of his Creator.

22. We want to address today a special word to the Christian youth. You, young people, should not bury your talent in the ground (Matt. 25:25), but use all the abilities given to you by God to establish the truth of Christ in the world, to put into practice the gospel commandments about love for God and neighbor. Do not be afraid to go against the current, defending the truth of God, which is not always consistent with modern secular standards.

23. God loves you and expects each of you to be His disciples and apostles. Become the light of the world so that those around you, seeing your good deeds, glorify your Father in Heaven (Matthew 5:14-16). Raise your children in the Christian faith, pass on to them the precious pearl of faith (Matt. 13:46), which you received from your parents and ancestors. Do not forget that "you were bought with a price" (1 Cor. 6:20) - at the price of death on the cross of the God-Man Jesus Christ.

24. Orthodox and Catholics are united not only by the common Tradition of the Church of the first millennium, but also by the mission of preaching the Gospel of Christ in modern world. This mission presupposes mutual respect for members of Christian communities and excludes any form of proselytism.

We are not rivals, but brothers: from this understanding we must proceed in all our actions in relation to each other and to the outside world. We call on Catholics and Orthodox in all countries to learn to live together in peace, love and like-mindedness among themselves (Rom. 15:5). It is unacceptable to use improper means to force believers to move from one Church to another, neglecting them religious freedom and their own traditions. We are called to put into practice the covenant of the apostle Paul and “to preach the gospel not where the name of Christ was already known, lest we build on someone else's foundation” (Rom. 15:20).

25. We hope that our meeting will contribute to reconciliation where there are tensions between Greek Catholics and Orthodox. Today it is obvious that the method of "uniatism" of the past centuries, which involves bringing one community into unity with another by separating it from its own Church, is not a way to restore unity. At the same time, ecclesiastical communities that have emerged as a result of historical circumstances have the right to exist and do everything necessary to meet the spiritual needs of their faithful, striving for peace with their neighbors. Orthodox and Greek Catholics need reconciliation and finding mutually acceptable forms of coexistence.

26. We mourn the confrontation in Ukraine, which has already claimed many lives, caused countless suffering to civilians, and plunged society into a deep economic and humanitarian crisis. We call on all parties to the conflict to prudence, public solidarity and active peacekeeping. We call on our Churches in Ukraine to work to achieve social harmony, to refrain from participating in confrontation and not to support the further development of the conflict.

27. We express the hope that the split among the Orthodox believers of Ukraine will be overcome on the basis of existing canonical norms, that all Orthodox Christians of Ukraine will live in peace and harmony, and the Catholic communities of the country will contribute to this, so that our Christian brotherhood will be even more obvious.

28. In today's world - many-sided and at the same time united by a common destiny - Catholics and Orthodox are called to work together fraternally for the proclaiming of the Gospel of salvation, for a common witness to the moral dignity and true freedom of man, "that the world may believe" (John 17:21) . This world, in which spiritual foundations are rapidly undermined human being, expects from us a strong Christian witness in all areas of personal and public life. The future of mankind largely depends on whether we can bear the witness of the Spirit of truth together in a critical era.

29. May the God-Man Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, help us in fearlessly proclaiming the truth of God and the saving Good News, our Lord and Savior, spiritually strengthening us with His true promise: “Fear not, little flock! For your Father has pleased to give you the Kingdom” (Luke 12:32).

Christ is the source of joy and hope. Faith in Him transforms a person's life, fills it with meaning. All those who can be said about the words of the Apostle Peter have seen this on their own experience: “Once not a people, but now the people of God; who once did not receive mercy, but now they have received mercy” (1 Pet. 2:10).

30. Filled with gratitude for the gift of mutual understanding revealed at our meeting, we turn with hope to the Most Holy Mother of God, invoking Her with the words of an ancient prayer: “We run under Your mercy, Virgin Mary.” May the Blessed Virgin Mary, by her intercession, strengthen the brotherhood of all those who revere Her, so that at God's appointed time they may be gathered in peace and unanimity into one people of God, may the name of the Consubstantial and Inseparable Trinity be glorified!

Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Kirill / Bishop of Rome, Pope Catholic Church Francis

I have not studied this declaration in detail yet, I have read it only superficially. I posted it for general information. After all, the most important thing in this epoch-making meeting is not what is recorded on this official paper, but what remains behind all this. The most important thing in this meeting was either written on a different paper, or it was decided at all in words. The general conclusion from all this is this: there are no more political disagreements between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Vatican, a radical political rapprochement between the Russian Orthodox and Roman heretical churches has nevertheless taken place. Now the matter remains for the most important thing - for church rapprochement. And it will not only happen soon, but most likely, it has already happened too, but left behind the scenes of official documents of the official chronicle. Further ecclesiastical rapprochement between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Vatican will be clear after 8 Pan-Orthodox Council, the last instructions before which, most likely, the Patriarch of All Rus' in Cuba received from the mouth of the Pope. If anyone did not understand, then on February 12 in Cuba, the Pope of Rome and the Patriarch of All Rus' decided the fate of Ecumenical Orthodoxy. What it will be like now, we will find out after the decisions of the forthcoming Eighth Wolf Council begin to be implemented. It was then that we will find out exactly how Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill of All Rus' decided to reformat Ecumenical Orthodoxy. There is very little time left to wait.

Although the grandfather, and then the father of the future Patriarch of All Rus' Kirill, had to go through persecution and Stalin's camps. The decision to take the rank was not easy for Vladimir Gundyaev himself.

The future Patriarch of All Rus' grew up in an ordinary Leningrad communal apartment on Vasilyevsky Island.

We had a very good atmosphere in the family: intelligent and loving friend other people, a wonderful library ... I don’t remember a single quarrel between my parents, he recalled. - I don’t remember that my parents ordered us something, everything went in the right direction by itself ...

Myself future Patriarch, his brother and sister, who graduated from a Soviet school, devoted themselves when they grew up to the church. Vladimir's elder brother Nikolai is the rector of the Transfiguration Cathedral in St. Petersburg. The younger sister Elena is the director of the school at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy and the Orthodox Gymnasium.

There was only one boy in Volodya's school who refused to join the pioneers. The director tried to put pressure on the guy. Volodya Gundyaev calmly replied: "I will join the pioneers if you allow me to go to church in a pioneer tie." And they left him.

It was the late 50s - early 60s. The pioneer-Komsomol past was an indispensable condition for future education, for a career. And the young man studied well. At home, he read the Paris editions of Berdyaev, Frank, Bulgakov, the exact sciences were brilliant at school. At some point, he was even going to the physics department of Leningrad University ... But he changed his mind: he went to the seminary. And never once regretted it.

Grandfather and father were priests, and from childhood we were preparing to follow in their footsteps, - explained to Izvestia brother of the Patriarch, in the world - Nikolai Mikhailovich Gundyaev. We were such a family...

But the history of the family could, on the contrary, frighten children, force them to abandon the church.

Grandfather, Vasily Stepanovich Gundyaev, was ordained when he was 70. He became a deacon, then a priest, and served in the Bashkir village of Usa-Stepanovka. And he walked for 14 kilometers, if it was necessary to take the communion of the patient. Before the revolution, the family of Vasily Stepanovich lived in the Arzamas province. He himself worked as a machinist. Moreover, he drove letter trains, which were used by the most high-ranking persons. He made very good money. And even though there were already 7 children in the family, they could be really rich. But they lived very modestly. Many years will pass, and his grandson will find out: it turns out that his grandfather transferred almost all his earnings to the monasteries of the Holy Mountain, to Athos.

And after the revolution, grandfather Vasily began to fight against church schism, rushed to protect monasteries and temples, arranged explanatory lectures for citizens ... Of course, as a result, he was arrested. Passed dozens of camps and seven links.

Of course, it is impossible to imagine, - says Father Nikolai.

In his old age, Vasily Stepanovich turned into a vagabond. There were almost no places left in the country where he could appear. Only in the 60s was he able to come to Leningrad - to his son. But he once said to his grandchildren: “Never be afraid of anything. Fear only God."

The son of Vasily Stepanovich Mikhail, of course, knew what his father had to endure. And yet I wanted to follow in his footsteps. Actually, because of this strong desire, he ended up in Leningrad.

In the Arzamas province, where Mikhail Vasilyevich Gundyaev was born and raised, there was nowhere to study theology. He graduated from high school, served as a subdeacon, and then went to Leningrad. After the revolution, the only Theological Institute in the country remained there. But what! The best professors of the university and teachers of the Theological Academy dispersed by the Bolsheviks gathered there. Only they didn’t let Mikhail finish it: they closed the institute. He tried to go to medical school, but with a spiritual education "in history" it was unrealistic to enter there. I managed to get into the military-mechanical.

In Leningrad, Mikhail met his future wife. Raisa, a student of the philological faculty and a future teacher of German, sang in the church choir, he fell in love, managed to propose to her ... And on the same day he was arrested. Records were found in his apartment, where the word God was written with a capital letter. This was enough for four years of camps.

During the blockade, Mikhail Vasilievich almost died during the construction of fortifications. Undertreated, exhausted, he was sent to work at the Nizhny Novgorod plant, and until the very victory he assembled T-34 tanks. After the war, he turned to the metropolitan with a request for ordination. It was 1947. Mikhail Vasilyevich served as the chief mechanic at the plant. And at such a time from such a position - yes to the Church ...

This is our whole dad, - his eldest son Nikolai simply says.

It was also not easy for Vladimir to make a decision. After all, he did not immediately go to the Theological Academy. At first I was forced to finish my studies at night school, then I went on a geological expedition... And only at the age of 22 I thought about becoming a monk. To give up the opportunity to have a family, children, to devote oneself to the Church entirely.

They didn’t dissuade him at home, - his brother Nikolai shakes his head. - In our family, everyone made their own choice.

Dinner with the Metropolitan

Shortly after Christmas 1999, I was fortunate to have a meal at the same table with Metropolitan Kirill in Baltiysk near Kaliningrad, where he came to consecrate Sunday school. The consequences of the financial crisis were then one of the main topics. Therefore, naturally, they talked about the depreciating ruble, rising prices for products and medicines. The Metropolitan bitterly told how he asked someone from his entourage to buy him medicine. He returned from the pharmacy with nothing and said: "They gave little money, everything has risen in price." It was clear that Vladyka's bitterness was sincere, and he grieved not for himself, but for us sinners. And then one of the youth asked the metropolitan a question: “How to distinguish love from passion?”

Can you imagine that you are willing to live with this person when he is in a helpless state? Live long, maybe all your life? Then it's love. This is a gift of God, and it must be protected, - Vladyka answered.

Here, near Kaliningrad, in the mid-1990s, one of the local military leaders decided to take the metropolitan “on the weak side”: “Will you fly in a supersonic fighter?” And Kirill flew on the MiG-27.

Of course, he was afraid, - he confessed to us then at dinner, - he felt anxiety. But I felt the power of the machine, and it became calmer in my soul.
